Bougainville’s President, Ishmael Toroama, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of MP Father Simon Dumarinu, describing it as a significant loss for the region. The member of parliament for Central Bougainville in the Papua New Guinea National Parliament passed away last Friday.

Toroama highlighted that Father Simon, a Catholic priest, held a prominent role as a spiritual leader within Bougainville communities. He praised the late MP for his dedication to his people and his unwavering commitment to both his faith and his political duties.

Describing Father Simon as a remarkable individual, Toroama emphasized that he not only empathized with the people’s challenges but also shared in their successes. He acknowledged the priest’s role during the Bougainville Crisis, where he provided solace, motivation, and spiritual guidance to many individuals and leaders.

The president commended Father Simon for his efforts in serving the community and spreading the message of God. He mentioned their collaboration in launching the “Central Bougainville Five-Year Development Plan” alongside Prime Minister James Marape, considering it a significant step towards enhancing service delivery.

Expressing profound sadness over the untimely loss, Toroama regretted that Father Simon’s passing occurred just as he was set to implement his developmental initiatives for Central Bougainville.
