Additional armored vehicles and fire trucks have been delivered to enhance the security forces in New Caledonia, which include the police and firefighters.
The French High Commission announced last week that a shipment brought by the cargo vessel “Calao” from France had arrived. The consignment included ten new armored vehicles for the security forces and fifteen other vehicles intended to support local firefighters.
Furthermore, 15 fire trucks are set to be provided to the local Civil Security department.
According to French High Commissioner Louis Le Franc, the purpose of this delivery is to continue securing New Caledonia by replacing or renewing damaged equipment, such as trucks and armored vehicles.
The ten new armored vehicles, called “Centaur,” will supplement the six that have been in use in New Caledonia since the previous month.
Additionally, another set of light armored vehicles, designed for exploration, were brought on the same vessel. These vehicles are equipped with reinforced windows to shield passengers from bullets.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to clear the roadblocks in Nouméa and its surrounding areas. In the Northern Province, three French gendarmes sustained injuries, including bone fractures, after their vehicle was targeted and struck by a vehicle used by rioters, as reported by the French High Commission.
