The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has entered into a grant agreement worth US$2 million with the government of the Cook Islands aimed at enhancing health screening capabilities at the nation’s airports. According to Cook Islands News, the funding will be utilized to upgrade health screening equipment that is essential during public health emergencies, ensuring that the country is better prepared to manage health risks. Additionally, the grant will facilitate the installation of more solar power systems to improve the treatment and disposal of medical waste, promoting environmentally sustainable practices within the healthcare sector.

This initiative represents a significant step forward not only in bolstering public health infrastructure but also in empowering women through increased access to technical and vocational training, particularly within the aviation sector. By fostering women’s involvement in these fields, the Cook Islands can cultivate a more diverse workforce, ultimately enhancing the country’s resilience and capacity to respond to health challenges. This multifaceted approach not only addresses immediate health needs but also lays the groundwork for long-term economic growth and sustainability in the Cook Islands.
