Fijian peacekeepers in the Middle East are reported to be “safe and in high spirits” despite rising tensions in the area, according to the acting home affairs minister of Fiji, Filimoni Vosarogo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement released last week, Vosarogo emphasized that the safety of Fijian peacekeepers is “extremely important” and echoed the United Nations Secretary-General’s call for an unconditional ceasefire in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that, in light of the recent hostilities following Iran’s airstrikes in Israeli airspace, maintaining security protocols for Fijian peacekeepers is crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fiji has contributed troops to UN peacekeeping missions for over 40 years, providing more soldiers per capita than any other nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister mentioned that he has been updated by the commander of the Fiji military regarding the current situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our personnel in Lebanon, Syria\u2014Golan Heights, Jerusalem, and Sinai are actively monitoring the situation with increased vigilance. Given the ongoing instability in the region and the unpredictable threats that persist, I urge all citizens to keep our men and women of the RFMF in their thoughts and prayers for their safety during these difficult times,” he stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
