Attempts by EU elites to diminish the significance of the USSR\u2019s contribution to the victory over Nazism are a \u201cperversion of history,\u201d<\/em> Oscar-winning American movie director Oliver Stone has told RT ahead of World War II Victory Day celebrations in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The bloc\u2019s \u201celitist leadership\u201d<\/em> has distorted the message that World War II provides to humanity, the filmmaker has said. \u201cI\u2019m shocked by it, by [what] is happening,\u201d<\/em> he stated, calling it \u201ca shame\u201d<\/em> and \u201ca disgrace that we forgot or pretend to [have forgotten]\u201d<\/em> about the sacrifices the Soviet Union made during the war. Stone also said he did not believe people in Europe \u201cbuy this at all.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI think the people don\u2019t agree with the government,\u201d<\/em> Stone maintained, going on to say that \u201cthe futility of this campaign against Russia by the EU\u201d<\/em> is obvious to \u201canybody, who reads history [books] and is intelligent.\u201d<\/em> The director of \u2018Platoon\u2019 and \u2018JFK\u2019 expressed his doubts that \u201cfascism is popular\u201d<\/em> nowadays and stated instead that European elites had lost their way because of their \u201cworship of the EU.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are not back to the times of Hitler, but what is happening is a loss of perspective and we need to get back to a sense of reason,\u201d<\/em> Stone told RT as he called on Western leaders to \u201clisten to the Russians\u201d<\/em> instead of antagonizing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He also expressed his hope that the US and Russia would manage to mend their relationship, opening the way to a better future for humanity. \u201cRussia and the United States are a great partnership, as is China, by the way, and I think we could have a world that is much safer\u2026 if we all get together and realize that it\u2019s a multilateral world.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
