{"id":1234,"date":"2025-01-18T07:07:42","date_gmt":"2025-01-18T07:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pacificislands.news\/?p=1234"},"modified":"2025-01-18T07:07:42","modified_gmt":"2025-01-18T07:07:42","slug":"samoa-political-saga-challenge-to-party-removal-reported","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pacificislands.news\/?p=1234","title":{"rendered":"Samoa political saga: Challenge to party removal reported"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>by Martin Haffner Associate Editor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samoa&#8217;s prime minister and the five other ousted members of the ruling FAST Party are reportedly challenging their removal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FAST chairman La&#8217;auli Leuatea Schmidt on Wednesday announced the removal of the prime minister and five Cabinet ministers from the ruling party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty party members signed for the removal of Fiame Naomi Mata&#8217;afa and five others, including Deputy Prime Minister Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio and two original members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samoa media outlets are reporting that in a letter dated 17 January, one of the removed members, Faualo Harry Schuster, wrote: &#8220;We all reject the letter of termination as relayed as unlawful and unconstitutional.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the letter, which is circulating on social media, he claims they are still members of the FAST party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local media reports had suggested members of the FAST party had called for Fiame&#8217;s removal as prime minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the Government&#8217;s Savali newspaper has confirmed the removal of 13 associate ministers of Fiame&#8217;s Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Martin Haffner Associate Editor Samoa&#8217;s prime minister and the five other ousted members of the ruling FAST Party are reportedly challenging their removal.
