The significant increase in meth seizures in Samoa suggests a growing presence of the drug in the region. Additionally, Samoan police officials are alarmed by the discovery of illegal firearms during meth-related operations.
Several members of Parliament in Samoa have raised concerns about the growing number of drug-related crimes in the country. One MP pointed out the increasing involvement of young people in drug offenses, while another emphasized the immediate need for improved security measures due to rising crime rates.
According to the Samoa Observer, MPs from different constituencies expressed similar views, highlighting the urgent need for addressing these serious issues without delay.
In response to these concerns, Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure Olo Fiti Vaai announced the installation of a new x-ray scanner in Matautu to enhance national security. This initiative is seen as a proactive measure to prevent the illegal entry of drugs into the country.
Samoa faces challenges related to drug abuse and addiction, although the issue was not as prevalent compared to some other countries.
